Saving SolidWorks Options Setting

If you have to re-install SolidWorks or have multiple installations and want to be able to use the same Options Settings without having to re-set them all the time, use the Copy Options Wizard.
This little used utility can be found under the SolidWorks Program menu.
Start -> Programs -> SolidWorks 200X -> SolidWorks Utilities --> Copy Options Wizard. This Program will allow you to either read the Options settings from another computer on the network or create a file (*.reg) that you can later recall. The *.reg file can be read using the Copy Options Wizard or by simply double clicking on the file. This is extremely helpful if there is a desire to have everyone using SolidWorks within a company to have the same default program settings. It is also a nice backup in case you must re-install SolidWorks or want to install it at home and want to keep the Options you had set once before. An alternate use for this is to have different settings files for particular parts. An example of this would be creating different *.reg files for different drawing sizes. You can simply double click on a particular *.reg file to quickly set all the detailing settings to be correct for a C size drawing.

Rotating view about a point or line

Sometimes when working on a part or assembly within SolidWorks it helps to rotate the view about a point, vertex, or edge of a part. To get more control over how you rotate your model in 3D space, you can use the rotate about a model point/vertex or edge command. This command is especially useful when you are zoomed into a small area and want to rotate the view.

Rotate about a point:

select vertex.gif (9371 bytes)

To rotate about a point or vertex simply select the rotate icon and then place the pointer (it will be in the form of the rotate icon) on top of the desired point or vertex, as shown below.

Then hit the left mouse button (select) once, let go, and then hold down the left mouse button to rotate about the point.

Rotating about an Edge:

select edge.gif (6406 bytes)

Rotating about an edge or vertex is similar as you perform the same steps stated above only to select an edge instead of a point/vertex.
