During the opening process of a SolidWorks part or assembly, you can choose the Configuration you would like to open with the file in. To make this happen, single click the file you want to open (do not double click). Below the preview area, on the right, is a pull down that will allow you to choose the configuration to open. After your configuration of choice is selected choose the open button. This can save some time over opening the file and switching to the ConfigurationManger and waiting for the configuration to change after the file is open.
