SolidWorks comes with a couple thousand structural member profiles for weldment designs.

You the user, just needs to unleash them from your machines hold on them. To do this click on the design library symbol and choose the line “SolidWorks Content”. This will show about 8 different categories of profiles.

 Choose the category of profiles you would like to “unleash” by holding your CTRL key and LEFT MOUSE BUTTON. This will bring up a “Browse to Folder” (save to) dialog. Choose the directory you would like to “download” a zip file of all the profiles to.

 When the zip file finishes downloading, unzip the file to a directory. Within SolidWorks go to options, choose “File Locations”. From the “Show folders for:” pull down choose “Weldment Profiles”.

Add the TOP level directory that you extracted the zip file to. Choose OK to close the options dialog.
Start a new part. When you choose a profile, the list of profiles now includes the new profile set you just unzipped.
